“Cocktail” is a type of mixed drink which is consumed in many countries. It’s a type of liquor with flavouring agents. It contains fruit juice, sauces, honey, milk, cream or spices. The cocktail had become popular after the prohibition in United States . The disadvantage in buying cocktail is that many bar owners mix both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with the drink. This is very hazardous to consume.

The olden day’s cocktails were made in combination with gin, whisky or rum and with a small amount of vodka. Many cocktails were made traditionally by mixing it with gin which is called as gimlet or martini. This type of mixed drinks was introduced after the period of 1980′s. The word cocktail was determined by Dr. David Wonderich in October 2005.

A benefit of drinking a sip of cocktail is that it will keep you relieved from head aches. “Cocktail” is liquor composed of sugar, water and bitter agents. It is also called as bittered sling. And it is also supposed to be an electioneering potion, since it keeps the heart stout and bold. It is said that a person who swallows one sip of cocktail is ready to swallow anything else. There are several cocktail recipes; they come in different compositions according to the bartenders. In addition of Punches, Sours, Slings, Cobblers, Shrubs, Toddies, Flips, and a variety of other types of mixed drinks were 10 recipes for drinks referred to as “Cocktails”.

The quality and quantity of alcohol present in cocktail is very less when compared to the other alcoholic drinks. The cost of the cocktails also has a big difference when compared to other drinks. So, nowadays bartenders have started preparing cocktails. They are mixed with different types of other drink such as gin, whisky, milk and cream. It is not mixed with water. The ingredients mixed depend upon the region from where you get the drink. While serving cocktails, it is to taken care that you serve the drink in the appropriate glass. The cocktail glass is of a shape with a wide, shallow bowl, on a stem above a flat base. The cocktail glasses are designed in such a shape that the temperature should not change.

Long-term heavy drinking damages the liver, nervous system, heart, and brain Click here to see an illustration.. It also causes high blood pressure, stomach problems, medicine interactions, sexual problems, osteoporosis, and cancer. Alcohol abuse can also lead to violence, accidents, social isolation, jail or prison time, and difficulties at work and home. Symptoms of an alcohol problem include personality changes, blackouts, drinking more and more for the same “high,” and denial of the problem. A person with an alcohol problem may gulp or sneak drinks, drink alone or early in the morning, and suffer from the shakes. He or she may also have family, school, or work problems or get in trouble with the law because of drinking. The use of alcohol with medicines or illegal drugs may increase the effects of each.

Is alcohol a problem for me? You have a “drinking problem” when drinking causes problems in your life or health. Drinking alcohol affects your judgment, energy level, work performance and health. Even small amounts of alcohol may be a problem if you: Have any short- or long-term health problems, Are taking medicines (even over-the-counter or herbal medicines), Have people in your family who have a problem with alcohol, Have had problems in your life or health because of alcohol, Feel down or depressed.

Each fall, universities and colleges across the country welcome a new batch of first-year students. And at this time, amidst choosing between “Human Anatomy 101″ and “Introduction to Economics,” or which fraternity party to attend, college freshmen will face choices involving a substance with an arguably ubiquitous presence on college campuses nationwide: alcohol. Some students may choose to stay away from alcohol, while others may decide to dabble.

There are approximately 10 million alcoholics in the United States. On top of this staggering figure you can also add 20 million alcohol abusers. Most of these alcohol abusers are teens and college students. Figures show that 2 out of 3 adults use alcohol. It has been determined that over half of all suicides, accidental deaths and homicides are related to alcohol. More than 10,000 young people were killed and 40,000 more are injured annually in accidents that involve drinking and driving. As you can see the cost of using alcohol is high and these are just the human costs. Let’s also add the cost of productivity and health expenses that occur because of alcohol addiction and abuse. It happens without warning. It creeps into your life and all of a sudden, you’re hooked. At first you’re the life of the party, and later you’re the drunk of the party. When you’re young, twenties and thirties, your body can handle all the booze, no problem. But mentally it impairs the way you view and feel the world around you.

What can the alcoholic do? What can the enabler do? It would be stupid for me to sit here and tell you to quit drinking; easier said than done right? Yep, if you’re an alcoholic, I know what you’re going through. What I can do though, is tell you what I did. If what I did sounds acceptable to you than give it a try. First of all the enabler needs to get help by going to Alanon. Your getting help for your self will be helping the alcoholic in more ways than you’ll ever know, believe me. In Alanon you will learn to not let the escapades of the alcoholic bother you. You will also learn to NOT rescue the alcoholic anymore! This aspect is so very important. Angie Lewis offers spiritual enlightenment tips for couples in marriage, and is the author of new release book JOURNEY ON THE ROADS LESS TRAVELED. This unique book is about love, life, marriage, addiction, temptation, and understanding the power of spiritual awareness for your marriage.

The falling-down phase of being drunk. It is about the alcohol level of 0,15 g/100ml the cerebellum becomes affected and keeping your balance could become difficult. With a bit of luck, your friends would by this time have lain you on the ground somewhere safe. The down-and-out phase of being drunk. We hope you are lying down in a safe place, because at this stage the wave is crashing at 0,25 g/100ml over your diencephalon and the mesencephalon (midbrain). You become tired and very unsteady – you are now probably out for the count. You start shaking and you vomit. Maybe your reflexes will not be so badly suppressed that you cannot protect your airways, otherwise you could inhale your own vomit and die. Your consciousness is now suppressed, and you may be comatose.

Consuming alcohol on a regular basis also becomes a habit after a while, just like driving down a familiar road. If there is a problem, or a social setting that calls for alcohol, you may be grabbing that bottle of beer or glass of wine without even thinking about it. Once you get in the habit of drinking alcohol on a more or less regular basis, your body gets used to the alcohol in the blood stream and reacts with withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking. These withdrawal symptoms can range from mild to severe.

Drinking alcohol is dangerous for kids and teens and sometimes for adults, too. Alcohol is a drug, and it is the drug most abused by teens. Many kids have their first drink at an early age, as young as 10 or 11 or even younger. They may have seen their parents drink or cool ads for beer and wine. It’s easy for a kid to get the wrong message about alcohol. In TV commercials, drinking looks like a lot of fun. You might see people drinking and watching sports together or having a big party. But alcohol is actually a depressant. That means it’s a drug that slows down or depresses the brain. Like many drugs, alcohol changes a person’s ability to think, speak, and see things as they really are. A person might lose his or her balance and have trouble walking properly. The person might feel relaxed and happy and later start crying or get in an argument. Kids need to know that it is not okay to start drinking until they are of legal age and even then it is not recommended.

Car accidents these days have soared through the roof. These are generally because of drunk drivers. When a driver goes to the bar to hang with friends and have a couple of glasses of beer, they will feel confident enough they can drive themselves home. Sadly this is not the case, if anything people should have a designated driver they can count on. A lot of the time the drunk driver isn’t always the one who pays for driving drunk. Completely sober families and people can become a victim of drunk driving. American taxpayers pay an average of about 21 to 24 billion dollars a year on alcohol related car accidents. The figures are alarming and increasing steadily, about 250,000 people have died in the last ten years, and in 2004 25,000 people died. There is so much destruction and death caused by alcohol, it would be easiest if you just didn’t drink and found other creative ways to have fun, or at least have a designated driver every time you go out.

Alcohol gets to be that reckless part of you, that alter ego that appears like a black sheep of the family, only to rain on your parade. It’s the kind of friend that moves in uninvited, steals your food, makes out with your girlfriend and doesn’t pay a dime in rent. The perennial bad tenant, that wrecks your property, lets weeds grow in your garden and then only departs when forcibly evicted. But above all it’s a substance that wrecks your health and causes so much unnecessary suffering, a drug you willingly pour down your neck for the sake of sociability and to block out the daily pounding of life. It’s not until you can see it for what it is, an interloper in an otherwise beautiful existence that you realize that this substance takes on a life of its own, once you allow it to enter your body.

The reality is that if you have found yourself concerned about your drinking, you probably at least have a drinking problem and you may be an alcoholic. The very fact that you are questioning your drinking habits in and of itself generally is a solid alcoholism test, a sufficient basis for you to seek some sort of appropriate assistance in regard to your drinking (or in regard to your potential alcoholism) before the situation becomes even worse. Beyond what might best be called the “concerned alcoholism test,” there are in fact solid alcoholism test options that can assist you in making a more thorough inventory to determine if you might indeed have an alcohol problem or to find out if you are an alcoholic. An alcoholism test can provide a basic guide as to whether you have an alcohol problem or whether you might be an alcoholic. The standard alcoholism test has a series of twelve to twenty such questions like this. The fact is that most experts agree that when a person answers “yes” to even one question in such an alcoholism test, that person likely does have a drinking problem and very well may be afflicted with the disease of alcoholism. You need to know there is a problem before you try to get rid of it.

hat most alcoholics don’t realize is that their obsession is actually chemical, and with every chemical problem actions can be taken. It is the most difficult to treat but it is still doable. Once an alcoholic has gone to a rehabilitation center, the very first thing they will do is detoxify the alcohol. Other wise know as an alcohol detox which is a period of medically monitored treatment where the alcoholic is helped to overcome his/her physical addiction to alcohol. If the addiction is really bad the person will experience cold sweats and severe seizures. The patient just has to work through this part, there isn’t a way to get around it. The next step is rehabilitation often know as rehab. This is generally just therapy after the initial treatment is over. Relapse prevention is also included. The entire process is uncomfortable but when you are through you will be able to live your life free and well again.

For members of Alcoholics Anonymous, absolute alcohol sobriety is a must. But, for many of us absolute alcohol sobriety is a choice we make for all sorts of reasons. Health issues tend to be the prime motivation for maintaining absolute alcohol sobriety. Alcohol does not mix well with pregnancy, diabetes, high blood pressure to name but a few. There are also the psychological problems that are worsened by alcohol consumption and for which absolute alcohol sobriety is desirable. Achieving absolute alcohol sobriety can be challenging as drinking can become a habit if not an addiction. The occasional drinker may well be able to get to the point where they can achieve absolute alcohol sobriety without any help from outside sources. Others may need more help. Alcoholism is an issue made worse by the fact that societies’ acceptance of the use of alcohol actually hides the problem. It can be incredibly difficult for anyone with an alcohol problem to achieve absolute alcohol sobriety.

Every now and then people don’t even realize they are so completely obsessed with alcohol. They just have a few glasses every night. Soon they will start to crave and need it everyday. The way to know if you are obsessed with alcohol is if you depend and crave it constantly. You know you need help when you feel like you need some liquor everyday, and you crave it with such intensity that you start to shake. Or it cuts you’re your work day, the need to get a drink. At worst the need can lead you to convulsions and the want to drink more. Often they will feel as if they are ‘more resistant’ to the tipsy effects of alcohol. If this is happening to you seek professional help right a way. It is best to prevent this bad of an addiction as fast as possible before the symptoms get worse.

It sounds obvious doesn’t it – ‘iced tea without boiling water’. If the water was boiling it couldn’t be iced tea, right? Well, of course, the boiling water reference is with regard to the actual making of the tea. This is a recipe which does not require a kettle.

You will need:

* Two jugs
* Good quality loose-leaf tea
* Water
* A refrigerator
* A tea strainer
* Lemon juice (optional)

Method

1. Firstly, fill one of the jugs with cold water. Add the tea according to taste – start off with one tablespoon per pint (about 0.5 litres) of water and adjust the strength if you prefer a weaker or a stronger tea. You should use a tea with a good strong flavour such as Assam. Weaker and more subtle teas don’t suit this method.
2.Place the jug into a refrigerator and leave it overnight. To tea connoisseurs, this will sound like heresy. Surely the tea will be stewed beyond all recognition? Actually, because the recipe uses cold water, the bitter elements of the tea leaf will not infuse into the water and ruin the result.
3. Next morning, strain the tea into the second jug and, if you wish, add the squeezed juice of half a lemon. The tea is now ready to be enjoyed on warm summer days, with plenty of ice and a slice of lemon.
4.If you also have a freezer, it’s a good idea to make ice cubes from the tea. Using these instead of normal water ice will prevent the tea from becoming weak and insipid in the glass as the ice melts and dilutes it.
