Gourmet is often used as a distinguishing word for foods of that with high quality, where special efforts and artistic flare are used by the preparers or makers in the arrangement or cooking of any sumptuous meal. The word has a connotation for elitism in eating preferences and is repeatedly used to describe people of refined taste and obsession for food. The word gourmet is from the French term for a wine broker employed by a wine trader who has a trustworthy name for being an aficionado of delicious things that were not eaten mainly for nourishment.

You can get all kinds of gourmet food guides no matter where you want to travel. There are several different places that offer gourmet food guides for their state or even the diverse larger cities. With these food guides, you can enjoy the best gourmet foods in every place, state or country you wish to visit. With a gourmet food guide in your hand, you will be able to find the most delectable foods such as seafood, chocolate, cheese, wines, and other traditional dishes of each locality. You can even enjoy various walking tours that mark a variety of restaurants that recommend gourmet food. All of these gourmet food guides should help your taste buds enjoy the vacation as much as you.

It is now possible to purchase gourmet food online, particularly when you are short on time. Leading the kind of busy lives most of us do, often we just do not have sufficient time for researching recipes and shopping for groceries in supermarkets, let alone spending hours in the kitchen cooking! Sometimes buying in just one or two prepared gourmet meal and preparing everything else yourself is just sufficient to take the stress off you. The web is perhaps the simplest and most time efficient method for looking the perfect supplier of gourmet food online that gets delivered right to your doorstep.

Another explanation for buying gourmet food over the interne may be due to the fact that you may be somewhat deficient in culinary skills or confidence. Hosting a banquet party can be a bit daunting if it’s a very significant occasion and you want to make an impression. That is another reason to go on the web and buy gourmet food.

Chicken soup makes you feel better when you are sick. It warms you up on a winter day. It is kid friendly. How can you find anything better? Instead of just opening a can and adding some water, why not try making your own homemade chicken soup? It is not hard at all, and it tastes so good.

Basics for Cooking Chicken Soup

First, you need some chicken bones. These can be leftover from the roast chicken you had last night. Didn’t know you could get two meals out of that single chicken, did you? Put the entire carcass in a stockpot and cover it with several quarts of water. Add some seasonings and a carrot, an onion, some celery and herbs. Bring the water slowly to a boil, and then turn it on low to keep it simmering. Skim off the foam that will appear on the top. This is caused by the protein in the chicken. Do not worry… the good stuff stays in the soup!

Simmer this slowly for several hours… all day if you have the time. Add more water if you need to, although covering it will help reduce the evaporation rate. On the other hand, reducing the stock will intensify the flavors. It all depends on how much soup you need to make to feed your family. Strain the stock. The bones and vegetables can be tossed at this point; they have given all they can.

Add in new vegetables, and the meat you have leftover. If you want to add potatoes, add them with the other vegetables. You may want to add any of the following: turnips, rutabagas, parsnips, carrots, zucchini, sweet potatoes, peppers, onions, or anything else you like. Towards the end, you may want to add some rice or noodles (rice will take longer to cook than noodles), and any vegetables that cook quickly. This may include cabbage, broccoli, or anything else you have left in the garden.

What Else Can You Do with Chicken Soup?

The above description makes a classic chicken soup with a clear yellow stock. However, you may be wondering what else you can do with chicken soup. Creamed chicken soups are hearty, creamy, and delicious. You can serve them plain or you can add a little vegetables or noodles to it. You can thicken a classic chicken soup by adding a roux and make it heartier. You can also turn a chicken soup into chicken and dumplings just by adding the dumplings in for the last twenty minutes of cooking. There is nothing better on a cold winter’s night.

Change the flavor of your chicken soup by adding some ethnic ingredients. Soy sauce, some Asian vegetables, herbs, and some glass noodles make the usual chicken soup seem exotic. Add some spice and tortilla pieces to create a trendy tortilla soup. You can also simplify. Reduce your chicken stock until you have a tasty golden consommé. This consommé can be eaten by itself, used to make gravies and sauces, or frozen for later use.

Cooking light is one of the biggest trends today especially when new years resolutions are still fresh or a wedding or special occasion is on the horizon. Unfortunately, the associations people have with cooking light are bland, tasteless and horrible food. However, this not need be true at all. You can try any of your family’s favorite recipes and make it a healthier alternative by just substituting a few things and having a more open mind.

Cooking lighter is easier today as many of our staple foods now have a light version. For example, cheese is now being made with alternative milk such as goats milk, skimmed milk is also used now too and these alternatives do not affect the flavor at all. Butter can be eliminated by substituting with low fat spread to reduce calorie intake significantly. It is important to make sure that you are eating the right fats and avoiding trans fats where possible.

The word gourmet often conjures of visions of ornate restaurants with fancy dishes that you can’t pronounce and prices you wish you couldn’t. While many believe that gourmet cooking isn’t something that can be accomplished by the everyday cook, the truth is, with a little effort and some practice, anyone can cook great gourmet meals in the privacy and comfort of your own home. With the right ingredients and a little no how, you can wow guests with tantalizing dishes that will leave them begging for more. Next time you have a craving for some superior cuisine, keep these tips in mind and start cooking!

Be Creative: Much like sculpting, painting, or writing, cooking is an art. When it comes to gourmet cooking, it’s important to keep an open mind and be creative with your dishes. Some of the world’s best chef made their way to the top by putting a new twist on common foods. Next time you make spaghetti, try to incorporate some new ingredients into your traditional sauce. Like the way a certain dish tasted? Try to mimic the taste in your cooking and see if you can come up with something new and exciting on your own.

Another good reason why one should become a raw foodist is because many foods in the raw food diet are simple to prepare, such as fruits, salads, canapés, and pickles. However there are some foods that need a little preparation and require considerable planning before eating such as rice and some other grains, for example, require sprouting or overnight soaking to become digestible. But this can be done just before going to bed. I believe that it is best to soak nuts before eating them, in order to activate their enzymes; this is a very simple principle to eating raw food.

Preparations of gourmet raw food recipes usually call for a blender, food processor, juicer, and dehydrator. Depending on the recipe, some food (such as crackers, breads and cookies) may need to be dehydrated. These processes, which produce foods with the taste and texture of cooked food, are lengthy. Some raw foodists dispense with these foods, feeling that there is no need to emulate the other non-raw diets. This is where I come in and agree with simple raw food eating that does not require fancy equipment. However there are plenty of tricks to eating raw gourmet food. If you like to know more please check out my new book Chop to Impress or simply try out one of my recipes on the menu side bar.

It took me a couple of times to perfect this with the right ingredients, but I’ve got it down now! This is an excellent tasting Chinese dish and it’s easy to prepare. It’s lean and healthy too! If you don’t like things so spicy, just cut the amounts of the black pepper and the crushed red pepper in half.

Ingredients:

1.25 lb. beef strips (the more tender, the better)

2 tbsp. canola oil

1 cup diced green bell pepper (with most seeds and membrane removed)

1 cup diced red bell pepper (with most seeds and membrane removed)

1 cup diced celery

1 cup diced yellow onion

1 tbsp. corn starch

2 tsp. brown sugar

1 14 oz. can beef broth

1/4 cup water

1/2 cup soy sauce

2 tbsp. rice vinegar

1 tsp. sesame seeds

1 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper

1/4 tsp. white pepper

1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper

1.5 cups (dry)

Instructions:

Prepare the rice according to the instructions on box. In a large skillet, heat the oil. Add the meat and heat, stirring often, until the meat is brown on all sides. Drain off about one half of the liquid from skillet. Add the fresh veggies and continue to stir often, until veggies are tender (but don’t overcook!). Add the beef broth, the soy sauce and the rice vinegar and then all of the dry ingredients except for the corn starch. Continue to stir often. Mix the cornstarch into the 1/4 cup of cold water and add to skillet, Continue to stir until gravy thickens. Serve on the rice. Serves about 6.
